Environmental and Food Analysis
The BMSS Environmental & Food Analysis SIG
The aims of the BMSS Environmental and Food Analysis SIG (EFASIG) are to facilitate users of mass spectrometry and chromatography who have particular interests in food and environmental applications. Our members have many and varied interests including: environmental monitoring, forensics, food science & safety, public analysis, occupational health, and water science & quality, in both the public and private sectors.
The BMSS EFASIG has successfully held a series of 1-Day meetings from 2004 until recently, under the stewardship of Dr Peter J Baugh; in 2019 an environmental meeting organizing group (EMOG) was formed, see below for the membership of this group.
During the Covid 19 pandemic, this group in conjunction with the BMSS secretariat, organized a series of nine virtual meetings extending from July 2020 until March 2021. During this series, The Leon Peters prize was awarded to Tim Sidnell, University of Surrey, for the best Early Career Scientist (ECS) oral presentation.
The most recent meeting was organized jointly with the Ambient Ionisation SIG at the University of Surrey, Guilford, on April 27th, 2022, and convened by Dr David Megson, EFASIG, and Dr Andy Ray, AISIG. The Leon Peters Prize was again awarded, and on this occasion, to Simone Mathias, University of Surrey, for the best ECS poster presentation.
EFASIG will join the RSC ECG (Environmental Chemistry Group) and SETAC Europe to organize and host #EnvChem2023, the 4th annual #EnvChem meeting, to be held in Glasgow in June 2023 (details to follow). The call for abstract will open in January 2023.
In July 2023, the EFASIG will be supporting the Solutions in Science (SinS) Analytical Conference being held in Cardiff, aimed at bringing together Analytical scientist across a range of disciplines, including Mass Spectrometry. The Theme for this first edition of SinS is “Sustainability and Beyond’. The meeting programme will highlight scientific solutions and present delegates with the latest research, techniques, instruments, and applications from Industry and academia. The call for Abstracts will open early November https://www.ilmexhibitions.com/sins/.
